My Favourite Things

Kai Hoffman

Kai Hoffman is one busy gal. She runs two different bands - Kai Hoffman Quartet & Kai’s Cats and she does regular charity work for Music in Hospitals

Kai's also planning some exciting new 50s inspired dresses with Vivien of Holloway, especially for her big stage performance at Twinwood 2013 with Kai’s Cats.

Kai's Cats At Palm Tree

Since 2008 (every first Thursday of the month) Kai has run Kai’s Cats club night ‘Live & Let Jive’ at Ronnie Scott’s Bar.

Kai launched her first solo album “Do It While You Can” with her jazz quartet at Ronnie Scott’s, and they are currently touring the material.

She's also filming a video for the original title track “Do It While You Can” with the quartet.

I especially love the Hollywood fashions of the 1940s and 50s - the glamorous ball gowns, stunning satins and Va-Va-Voom!

Clothing that’s made for a curvy woman’s figure, flattering you in all the right places, and making you feel just gorgeous. MEOW!

I love ALL of the Great American Song Book.

I love “Pure Imagination.” I love Louis Jordan’s “A Chicken Ain’t Nothin’ But a Bird.” I love Big Mama Thornton’s “Hound Dog.”

I love songs that hit you straight in the middle of your heart and make you want to cry, laugh, dance & SING!

I love the way that songs (and music) can evoke feelings that can’t be expressed any other way! I love ‘Do It While You Can’ (OK, I know I wrote it) but I need the reminder every day! Anything by Shirley Bassey and songs about food!

Mae West, the original sassy, sexy mama who knew exactly what she wanted and just how to get it - with just a wink and a couple of well-delivered words - whilst always remaining a lady.

Oh gosh, can’t choose just one. Love the costuming of so many Hollywood extravaganzas - for example the dresses from the King and I, or the ruby slippers in the Wizard of Oz. 1940s and 50s musicals, anything with Mae West.

Anything with massive, decadent dance numbers and fantastic singing!

TV Show

The Muppet Show! (Miss Piggy rocks).

The jazz quartet plays everything from swinging Blossom Dearie tunes to the wonderful ‘Pure Imagination’ from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, along with her own original songs too. Her styles range from swing jazz to 60s boogaloo.

Kai's jump jive and swing band Kai’s Cats is ‘40s & ‘50s inspired. They have just released the single “Kai’s Cats Boogie” on iTunes in celebration of their June show at the Ronnie Scott’s Club.
