I'm A Very Stylish Girl

Lola Lamour

As soon as I was old enough to dress in my own style, I started dressing in vintage clothes that I would get in charity shops and from the Rag Market in Birmingham. My mom has always sewn and knitted for me too. It has always been a way of life for me and I started collecting things from car boot sales too.

Who is your style icon and why?
Doris Day and also Rita Hayworth. Doris always dresses so classy and looks great in simple styles and bright colours or in plain white or cream. She never looks cheap or tacky and yet always sexy.

Rita has the most amazing hair EVER........she always dresses to set this off in lovely greens and browns and blues. She always looked stunning in her films.

You are given the opportunity to restyle a celebrity in your vintage look, who would it be and why?
I don't really know any "celebrities" from the modern day. I don't read magazines or have a paper or watch TV. I can't really answer that question. Sorry!

What iconic outfit or dress would you like to wear and why?
Rosemary Clooney's dress that she wears in "White Christmas" when she sings "Love, You Didn't Do Right By Me" It is a stunner designed by Edith Head who was amazing. It is so simple but effective and so glamorous. The neckline is wonderful and just the little spray of diamonds at the base of the back is perfect.

If you could be an extra on any Film/TV Show/ Theatre Production what would it be and why?
Probably "Pillow Talk" or "Send Me No Flowers" I would have been in awe of Doris Day and would have loved to have met Rock Hudson. They were great friends and I think they had a lot of fun making those films.

Have you got any tips for newbies wanting to achieve a vintage look?
Find a style that you like and a style that suits you. The best advise I can give is to keep it simple and also to co-ordinate. Dress for your body shape too and for your age. Classic styles will always flatter.
