Darlings Vintage

The word Darling has connotations of glamour and I have always loved glamorous women. To know I can help to create that look, and even better the feeling of confidence that goes with it is the best feeling in the world.

I wanted a name that sounded like somewhere these women would shop!

Eleanor Thomas, Darlings Vintage

Finish this sentence…I wish I could have provided the costumes for…?

Aviator. I love Cate Blanchett’s outfits! Second choice would be the new Gatsby film. So many sparkles.

If you could step back in time, what decade would you travel to and why?

Probably the 50’s because of all the changes that went on in that decade. Plus I love dancing and ballgowns!

What do you love most about your job?

Personal styling. I love when someone comes in feeling a little down about themselves and I’ll help them find something perfect that flatters their body and makes them feel great. Knowing I help people to feel a little bit better about themselves is the best feeling in the world.

Why vintage and how did you come up with the name?

Vintage has appealed to me all my life. My grandfather told me stories of travelling in the Navy when I was a very young girl and I always thought they possessed such charm. Especially the one where he came back to marry my Gran. She had the most spectacular wedding dress and after seeing all the pictures that accompanied the stories I fell in love. The 40’s and 50’s were a magical time to be growing up there was so much camaraderie and this is reflected in the vintage scene today. I can’t imagine not being part of it!

Have you got any tips for newbies wanting to get a vintage look from your shop?

Don’t be afraid. Sometimes things look scarier on the hanger, and always ask shop assistants if you want some help with styling, they don’t bite! Don’t feel like your whole look has to be original. I wear M&S cardis with EVERYTHING.

Who past or present would you like to style and why?

Paloma Faith. I love her music and I bet she would be outrageous fun! There's so much you could do with her, because she’s very versatile.
