It's Vintage Darling

“I wanted to have the word ‘vintage’ in my store name so, I spent a long time coming up with different names. On the red carpet they ask “Who are you wearing”, so my reply would simply be….”It’s Vintage Darling”! that’s where the idea came from, it’s feminine, kitsch and fun.

I searched to see if anyone else had the name but they didn’t. About 3 months later a book with the same name came out so it was lucky I got the domain name registered when I did, as I just love the name and it makes people smile when I tell them it.

I have always wanted to have my own business so I thought why not do it now!”

Finish this sentence…I wish I could have provided the costumes for…?

The Crazy Horse Girls in Paris. I know they don’t wear much but its all about the little details, the stage, the high heels and the tease.

If you could step back in time, what decade would you travel to and why?

I would travel back in time to 17th century France to attend a ball with Marie Antoinette. The dresses and head pieces are unbelievable. I cant image what it would have been like to wear that everyday.

What do you love most about your job?

I love travelling all over the world in search of vintage; my travels have taken me far and wide. I love finding something unique that I know a customer will love to wear. I’m always on my phone or computer doing something, sometimes at 4.00am in the morning, but it doesn’t feel like work because I'm doing something I love to do everyday!

Have you got any tips for newbies wanting to get a vintage look from your shop?

If you are new to vintage I would start with accessories, whether it’s a piece of vintage jewellery, a vintage printed scarf or vintage handbag. It’s a great way to add a dash of vintage to your look, and then you can build up your look that way. Before you know it, I’m sure you will be hooked! Its so much fun wearing something that nobody else has.

Who past or present would you like to style and why?

I love the Royals they fascinate me especially The Queen. I would love to style her, she is my present day style icon. The Queen always looks so well put together, I love the bright colours she wears, her hats and gloves and the classic handbags she always has by her side. She looks fabulous, and she’s 86!
