The Depressed Cake Shop
The Depressed Cake Shop is a campaign about raising awareness around mental health issues, with a view to creating a platform for discussion.
What happens at the cake shop? Do you have guest speakers, events, activities?
We have kept it simple - we just sell cake.
What other organisations contribute towards The Depressed Cake Shop?
At this stage it is just all those involved in the DCS, organised using a Facebook group.
What made you want to start the business in the first place?
I just think it is a great idea and I wanted to do it for a good cause before, an all grey cake shop was done for a less charitable reason!
How did you come up with the idea of using cakes?
Cake engages people and everyone loves it – what better way to tempt people into discussion about a difficult topic.
Who comes up with the ideas for the different cakes you sell?
All the bakers who make them.
What do you most enjoy about your job?
Coming up with the ideas and seeing how people react to them.
Have you noticed a change in people's attitude towards mental health, since you've become involved with The Depressed Cake Shop?
It’s too early to tell.
What does the future hold for The Depressed Cake Shop?
At the moment we are still looking for a charity to ensure it’s legacy.
Your business has been given a blank cheque, how would you spend it?
We would buy a pop up space where we can host a series of pop up cake shops.
